UPDATE: LIRR Cancelations, Delays to Plague Rush Hour Following Freight Train Derailment
Trains can only operate on one track of the two tracks through the derailment area west of Hicksville.

UPDATE: 5:06 p.m.: The LIRR says “customers should expect train cancellations and delays during this evening’s rush hour due to a New York & Atlantic Railway freight derailment west of Hicksville. As a result of the derailment, we are only able to operate trains on one of two tracks through the derailment area.”
Westbound service is temporarily suspended between Ronkonkoma and Jamaica, as well as between Port Jefferson/Huntington and Jamaica.

The LIRR is bypassing eastbound service at Carle Place and Westbury. Customers will be accommodated west by bus from Hicksville to Westbury and Carle Place.

UPDATE 2:45 p.m.: The LIRR says it is “operating limited Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson service in both directions using only one of two tracks west of Hicksville Station due to a freight train derailment.”
Delays remain on both branches.

A freight train derailed near the Hicksville Long Island Rail Road station Tuesday afternoon, causing the LIRR to suspend service on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches.
“Service is suspended in both directions through Hicksville Station due to a freight train derailment,” the LIRR said on its website at 1:36 p.m.
There’s been no word yet on whether service will be restored for the evening commute.
