Local Brownie Troop Pays Visit to Syosset Fire Department
The girls learned all about fire safety during the tour last week.
The Syosset Brownie Troop 3450 recently got the chance to tour the local Syosset Fire Department and learn about fire safety.
The girls were all third grade students from Village Elementary School.
Lieutenant Ken Johnson showed the girls various areas of the Cold Spring Road building and fire equipment. He also gave them an up-close, hands-on look at a fire truck and ambulance.

In addition, the Brownies got the chance to see a demonstration of a firefighter getting dressed in his gear (though at a slower pace than during a real fire alarm).
According to the fire department, 90 percent of firefighters are men and only 10 percent are women.

Perhaps one of these girls scouts will become a volunteer firefighter when they are older!
