Second Arrest Made in Fatal LIE Crash

BREAKING: A 19-year-old man fled the scene of the crash Thursday night, police say. Another driver is charged with manslaughter.

A second arrest has been made in Thursday night's fatal crash on the Long Island Expressway in Nassau County, police said.

Areefeen Hirji, 19, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident that results in death. Hirji, of Pen Mor Drive in Muttontown, will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Sunday.

The multi-vehicle crash occurred at 11:48 p.m. Thursday near Exit 44–Route 135 in Woodbury, Nassau Police said.

One of the vehicles struck a guardrail, ejecting a passenger, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police still have not released the name of the passenger. The driver of that vehicle, 20-year-old Jonnathan Santos, of Manhasset, is charged with second degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired.
