Syosset Cyclones Place 15 Players on Syosset High School Teams

by Eric Hornick

lSyosset High School held its tryouts for the 2014 season the week before Labor Day and fifteen successful freshman candidates had one thing in common: they all play on the Syosset (Soccer Club) Cyclones.

The Cyclones are an incredibly close-knit group; the team has had the same eighteen players for each of the last three years. For each of the past three summers, the boys have been given training protocols by their trainer Danny Kramer. Kramer, a former star at Duke University, has coached many of the boys since the team was created in 2009.

The proud coach notes: “It has been amazing to watch them grow from young boys to now young men. They have developed into excellent soccer players and more importantly great people. Their understanding of soccer and how to play the game the right way has grown tremendously during our time together as a team. I am so proud to coach these young men and to see their success so far as they enter Syosset High School. I know the future is bright for Syosset High School soccer with these young men!”

The closeness of the group is not lost on Brett Waxer, the Varsity Coach of Syosset High School. “It’s important for the Syosset HS Braves Soccer Program to have kids that want to play for each other. We want them to go through this unbelievable experience with guys they played with for some years together. Having kids come into the Program this year (as in past years) and seeing the cohesiveness already generated from their club team, just makes the transition that much easier. The players have come in with a great work ethic and we expect them to compete each and everyday in the classroom, at practice and in the games. Along with playing some great soccer, we look for kids to play with great passion and character. The boys have displayed this from the first week of pre-season and will continue as the season progresses. We are lucky to have a great relationship with the Syosset Club and hope to continue to grow together as one successful soccer family.”

Of the fifteen boys, one (Sal Inglima) made the SHS varsity team.Six others made the JV-A team while eight Cyclones are on the JV-B team.
