Students from all 10 Syosset schools came together to declare “Cupcake War” on each other to benefit a good cause.
The students participated in the Interact Club’s “Cupcake Wars,” which was a cupcake decorating event that was fundraising for the club’s 7 In 7 campaign. The campaign’s goal was to help deliver life-saving heart surgeries to seven children on seven continents in seven days. These corrective surgeries are performed on children who were born with a congenital heart defect.

Thanks to the campaign, Rina, a 9-year-old girl from Kosovo, received her surgery at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn during the week of May 20. Children from countries including El Salvador, Jamaica, East Timor, the Philippines and Syria will also receive the surgeries they need.
More than 200 teams competed to see who could create the best-decorated cupcakes during a specific time limit. The “Cupcake Wars” took place in the Syosset High School gymnasium on Friday, May 8.

The panel of judges, made up of local restaurant owners, announced eight winning teams.
While the judges evaluated the cupcakes, students were able to enjoy an hour of carnival games, raffle prizes and dinner.
The event raised a total of $12,400, which helped the club inch ever closer to their goal of $42,000 to perform the seven surgeries.
Additionally, the Interact Club was presented a $5,000 check from the nonprofit Kids Helping Kids during the opening ceremony.
