Syosset Considers Energy Benchmark Proposal

Energy benchmark assessment would see history of energy usage to provide for ways of saving.

Syosset will soon receive an informal proposal for a resident to perform an energy benchmark assessment.

James Carchietta, founder of the green energy company The Cotocon Group, offered to perform an assessment with his company free of charge.

"It's a simple process where we look at the history of electricity, gas, water that has come into the building," explained Carchietta, adding that the assessment can be done within one to two hours.

This assessment would only be performed in the high school facility, Carchietta said.

"The district will benefit from this," said Carchietta. "We're spending $3 million on energy and this will allow you to save, but you need a benchline first."

Board members suggested Carchietta provide an informal proposal including a resume, description of his company, and a rundown of what is involved in the process.

Members also agreed to speak with legal and other departments regarding allowing other entities to perform similar assessments.
