Woodbury House Fire Sparked By Downed Utility Pole

Authorities said all residents inside the smoke-filled house were able to get out safely.

SYOSSET, NY—Firefighters responded to an early morning fire over the weekend caused, in part, by high winds. According to authorities, the Syosset Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call for smoke at a large ranch home on Pine Drive in Woodbury Sunday at 3:35 a.m.

After arriving on scene, crews said they found a utility pole on the front lawn of the home, which had been knocked down by strong winds. Crews then found a fire in the basement utility room that had spread to the first floor.

Authorities said all residents inside the smoke-filled house were able to get out safely.

Crews extinguished the fire and were able to contain it to the utility room and a first-floor room, officials said.

Fire departments from Bethpage, Jericho, Huntington Manor and East Norwich were called to the scene to assist.
