Syracuse 2017 Election Results: Ben Walsh Elected Mayor

Walsh, who comes from a family of elected Republicans but was rejected by his party in the primary, won as an independent.

Ben Walsh, who grew up in a Republican family and had hoped to be elected mayor of Syracuse as a Republican had to make do with the "consolation" prize: he was elected. But as an independent.

Walsh handily won with 54 percent of the vote, beating Republican Laura Levine who only garnered three percent.

Democrat Juanita Perez Williams, who had hoped to succeed Stephanie Miner, a Democrat being forced out by term limits after two terms, got only 38 percent.
