50th Anniversary Of Theodore D. Young Center Kicks Off With Parade

After the parade will be a block party.

GREENBURGH, NY — The Theodore D. Young Community Center, which began as the Greenburgh Youth Center and was renamed the Fairview Greenburgh Community Center, will celebrate its 50th anniversary beginning Saturday, June 24. The anniversary kickoff will start at 11 a.m. with a parade featuring the Woodlands High School Brass Band.

The parade will begin on Rosemont Boulevard and proceed onto Tarrytown Road, passing the original site of the first community center — the construction site of Harbor Freight Tools.

The parade will end at 32 Manhattan Avenue.

After the parade, the Department of Community Resources will host its second annual Block Party to highlight the anniversary’s events as well as summer programs. It will be held in conjunction with Union Baptist Church’s Building Block’s Party.

“It’s only fitting that we honor and learn about our past,” said Andre G. Early, Department of Community Resources commissioner.

“So many have worked, volunteered and sacrificed to realize a dream for a better quality of life for their community,” he said.
