The Evolve Dance Teen Apprentice Ensemble is a performing group designed to develop dancers' performing skills by providing them with professional experiences ina nurturing working environment. Dancers work with Evolve Dance faculty and guest artists and participate in master classes, workshops and performances. Evolve Teen Apprentices uphold the mission of Evolve Dance Inc. - to create and connect dancing communities through investigation, reflection and action.
The Evolve Dance Teen Ensemble just wrapped up its 2012-12 season with performances at the 5th Annual Y Dance Festival at the Tarrytown Music Hall (March 17, 18). The dancers worked with national and international guest artists, including Kathryn Alter (www.limon.org), Bennyroyce Royon (www.bennyroyce.com) and Mana Kawamura (www.manakawamura.com). Alter conducted a series of workshops and gave teh teen dancers their first taste of pure Limon technique, history and artistry. Curving spines, bodies playing with gravity, falling and recovering, the dancers were enlightened by her knowledge, skill and generous spirit. Royon set a noriginal work for the Ensemble, "Blue Sky," that not only gave them an opportunity to explore movement outside of their comfort zone, but captured their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn more. Kawamura also set original choreography, "Full Moon," and challendged them to focus on the details - to explore each movement down to the core, until they discovered an in-depth connection to the work. They performed "Full Moon" with a confidence beyond their years. The experience provides everlastingmemories for both dancers and choreographers. "This dance was made for tehm. They should know that "Blue Sky" is about their innocence and their bright future ahead of them," said Royon. The 2012-13 season promises to be just as exciting and fulfilling, with works from Evolve faculty artist Erica Moshman, Guest Artist Becky Radway, dance-based field trips to NYC, performances throughout the community, and more!
