Dear Ardsley Families,
It is with heavy hearts we share the sad news that earlier today Mrs. Martha Snegroff passed away after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Snegroff taught in Ardsley for over 49 years and touched the lives of over 5,000 students in her 51 year career, including many generations of Ardsley families.
We ask middle and high school families to please share this sad news with your children tonight. Tomorrow morning our teachers, counselors, support staff, and administrators will be discussing this loss with our students. Special sessions are planned for each of Mrs. Snegroff’s current classes. Our counselors, psychologists, and other staff members will provide additional emotional support to children who need it tomorrow and for as long as necessary in the days ahead. Please encourage your children to seek the support of our guidance staff, if needed.
Our focus tomorrow will be on supporting our students and staff, but we also recognize that you as parents may also need help discussing this loss with your children. Attached is information provided by the guidance department that may assist you in supporting your children at home. In addition, our support staff will be available to meet with parents on Wednesday, June 8th from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Middle School.
At this time, there are no arrangements for us to share with you. Should there be a public service, we will send that information out as requested by the family.
We will be planning ways for the students to pay tribute to Mrs. Snegroff in keeping with the wishes of the family. We will share this information with you in the next few days.
Thank you for your thoughtfulness and sensitivity in this time of sadness for all of us.
Dr. Lauren Allan
