Box Truck Strikes Trooper's Car On Shoulder Of I-87
The trooper was inside his parked patrol car monitoring traffic when the incident occurred.
GREENBURGH, NY — A marked New York State Police car was struck early Tuesday by a box truck while parked on the shoulder of Interstate 87 in the town of Greenburgh.
Police said the incident happened shortly before 6 a.m. between exits 7 (Ardsley) and 7A (Saw Mill River Parkway).
Authorities said Trooper Carlos Desilva was inside his patrol car monitoring traffic when a 2017 Freightliner box truck going south on I-87 drifted off the roadway onto the right shoulder.

It struck the driver's side of the police car, causing significant damage.
Michael Geleski, 35, of Fishkill, was driving the Ace Endico food truck out of Wappingers Falls. He and his passenger were not injured, police said.

Desilva, a 15-year veteran assigned to the Tarrytown barracks, was taken to Westchester Medical Center with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. He was treated and has since been released.
State police said the crash remains under investigation and remind drivers to slow down and move over when emergency and construction vehicles are working on the highway.
