Bridge Replacement On Sprain Brook Parkway Will Mean Fewer Lanes

The months-long project starts later in August.

ELMSFORD, NY — Replacement of the Payne Street bridge will necessitate reducing the Sprain Brook Parkway from three lanes to two in both directions for three months. The state Department of Transportation said the shift in traffic is expected to begin Aug. 21 and last until Nov. 20. The shift will occur south of Route 100C, continue for a half mile and then shift back north of I-287.

Significant traffic delays are anticipated. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

According to the DOT, the project will replace the Sprain Brook Parkway southbound bridge over Payne Street with a new longer span bridge.

This will include the removal of some of the Mechanically Stabilized Earth System wall between the existing abutments and the proposed abutments.
