Broad Street Bridge Closes Monday Evening Until Late August

The bridge is located between Yonkers and Mount Vernon and spans the Bronx River Parkway, the Bronx River and the Metro-North Railroad.

The following announcement is from the Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation:

Work has begun on the rehabilitation of the Broad Street Bridge over the Bronx River Parkway, Bronx River and Metro-North Railroad in the cities of Yonkers and Mount Vernon.  Motorists are advised that starting on Monday, July 14 at 8 p.m. and continuing until Friday, August 29, work will close the bridge to traffic in both directions between Midland Avenue and Locust Street.

The bridge will remain open to pedestrians for access to the Metro-North Fleetwood train station.  The work will also close two northbound lanes on the Bronx River Parkway in the vicinity of the Broad Street Bridge weeknights starting on Monday night, July 14 through Friday night, July 18 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Detours will be posted for all road closures.  For eastbound bridge traffic, the detour will be posted using Bronx River Road to Oak Street to Lincoln Avenue and then Gramatan Avenue.  For westbound bridge traffic, the detour will be posted using Gramatan Ave to Lincoln Avenue to Mt. Vernon/Yonkers Avenue and then Bronx River Road.  Passenger cars that previously travelled eastbound over the Broad Street Bridge to the eastbound Cross County Parkway are advised to enter the northbound Bronx River Parkway at Oak Street and take Exit 11E for the eastbound Cross County Parkway as an alternate route.

The majority of bridge work will be performed at night due to Metro-North Railroad restrictions for working above the railroad tracks and lane closure restrictions for working above the Bronx River Parkway.

Repairs to the bridge will include: rehabilitation of concrete piers and underside structure, new pavement as well as improved drainage and sidewalk repairs on Broad Street.  Electronic variable message signs are being used to alert motorists of the closure.  For additional information, contact the Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation at (914) 995-2555.
