UPDATE: Cashless Toll System on TZB Goes into Effect This Weekend
If you don't have an E-Z Pass, you can put away your wallet—but you still have to pay the tolls.

UPDATE: Due to the Friday evening weather forecast, the transition to the New NY Bridge project’s cashless tolling system is now scheduled to begin during the overnight of Saturday, April 23. Actual activation is scheduled to occur at 12:01 a.m., Sunday, April 24.

As a reminder, that is when the new cashless toll system will go into effect on the bridge.
The cashless system means that, if your vehicle doesn’t have an E-Z Pass, your license plate will be read as it passes under a camera-equipped gantry on the Rockland County side of the bridge.

You will then receive a bill for whatever tolls you incur.
No cash means the toll plaza on the Westchester side of the bridge will no longer be staffed.
The plaza will eventually be totally removed.
First, four of the right eastbound lanes will be taken out of service and that part of the structure will be removed. The lanes that remain open to traffic will be at reduced speeds.
A note of caution from the Thruway Authority: Approach the unstaffed toll booths with caution and keep to the 20 mph speed limit.
In about a month the remaining toll plaza structure will be removed.
