Chamber of Commerce Honors JoAnne Murray, Outstanding Community Members
Murray was honored with the Chamber's first-ever Cornelia Warner Appreciation Award.
Whether it is dressing up as a duck for the Rotary Club's annual or sticking up for at Village Hall, JoAnne Murray is just about everywhere in this community.
Murray, the co-owner of Tarrytown's Allan Block Insurance Company and an outgoing co-President of the Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce, was honored this month for her outstanding community service.
Murray received the first-ever Cornelia Warner Appreciation Award, from the Chamber of Commerce.

The award is named after Mrs. Warner whom, along with her husband Worcester, donated the Warner Library to the villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.
Warner was also very active in the community and the Chamber of Commerce.

While giving out the award on Dec. 16, the Chamber's Executive Director, John Sardy, quoted a Tarrytown Daily News article from 1940, which hailed Warner for being "heart-warming, and limitless in friendship and charity."
It was fitting, Sardy said, that Murray received the inaugural award because of her own "countless acts that benefited individual, institutions and the community."
"She really does so much... She's a strong voice for local business," Sardy said. "This award is really giving credit where credit is due."
The award is decided upon by the Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors, and will now be an annual affair at the chambers last meeting of the year.
