Church Collecting Donations, Care Packages For Haiti Relief

GREENBURGH, NY — Members of the First Community Church of the Nazarene are collecting donations and care packages to help family and friends who live in Haiti and survived the recent earthquake.

In a posting on the Greenburgh town website, Supervisor Paul Feiner relayed information that will help in the cause.

"The congregation is working hard trying to help victims of the horrible earthquake that has caused death and suffering to many," he said.

The church is accepting monetary donations. Checks can be made payable to "FCCN." In the memo section of the check, write "Haiti Relief." Send the check to First Community Church of the Nazarene, 2101 Saw Mill River Rd., White Plains NY 10607. Alternatively, you can go to the church's website. Click on the "giving" tab and identify the donation as "Haiti Relief."

The church is also collecting crisis care kits to ship to Haiti. The needed items can be dropped off at the church, though you should call 914-347-2601 before coming by. You can either pack the kits yourself or buy the items and drop them by and they'll be packed for you.

Crisis care kits shopping list

  • 1 shampoo, 12 to 18 ounces.
  • 2 bars of soap, bath size or larger.
  • 1 tube of toothpaste, 4 to 6.4 ounces.
  • 3 toothbrushes in original packaging.
  • 1 box of Bandaids, 30 or more.
  • 1 fingernail clipper.
  • 1 sturdy hair comb.
  • 2 hand towels.
  • 4 pocket-sized packages of Kleenex.
  • 1 Beanie-Baby-sized stuffed toy.

Organizers said that each crisis care kit should contain only the items and quantities listed. Place them all into a 2-gallon zipper-lock plastic bag. There are strict shipping requirements, so it's important that the exact size and number of items are in each package.
