Deadline Looming For Cashless Toll Amnesty
The state is still offering a discount to sign up for E-ZPass.

TARRYTOWN, NY — Time is running out if you want to take advantage of the Thruway Authority’s cashless tolling amnesty program. Tolls By Mail customers have one week left to pay open violations and, in turn, have any fees related to those violations waived. The program ends Monday, Feb. 26.
Thruway Authority’ Acting Director Mathew J. Driscoll said that thousands of people have paid their violations, and he is encouraging people with outstanding toll balances to pay up within the week.
“This is a great opportunity for motorists to do away with their violations and start fresh as we continue to move forward and improve cashless tolling billing,” he said.

The amnesty program is available to Tolls By Mail customers with passenger vehicles who have open violations issued between April 24, 2016, through Jan. 31, 2018. These customers include those who were already referred to a collection agency or have had their registration suspended. Customers must pay their entire outstanding toll balance by Feb. 26 in order to receive amnesty on open violations. Customers with E-ZPass violations or other toll violations unrelated to the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge are not eligible for the amnesty program, the Thruway Authority said.

Eligible motorists should have received a letter in early February from the Thruway Authority with their outstanding toll balances and instructions about how to have their violations fees waived. Motorists can also go to thruway.ny.gov/amnesty where they can enter their license plate, state and ZIP Code to determine if they have open violations and how much they owe in tolls. Customers are able to “Pay Now” with a credit card or print a coupon that they can mail to the Thruway Authority with a check or money order for the tolls they owe. Once a customer’s tolls have been paid in full, violations, fines and fees will be waived.
Motorists with open violations who do not make use of the amnesty program will be referred back into the violation process.
The Thruway Authority is also offering a $10 E-ZPass discount for new customers to encourage them to sign up for the service. Motorists who purchase a Thruway E-ZPass On-The-Go tag at one of the more than 780 locations around the state and register it by Monday, Feb. 26 will be eligible to receive the $10 credit after taking 10 trips on the state Thruway in six months.
