Former Sleepy Hollow Middle School Educator Chosen for Depth of Experience

At its meeting Aug. 2, the Elmsford Union Free School District’s Board of Education officially appointed Joseph Engelhardt as principal of Alexander Hamilton Junior/Senior High School.

Mr. Engelhardt, a former assistant principal at Sleepy Hollow Middle School, who was the first to be tenured in that position, started Aug. 3.

The seasoned educator brings extensive experience to the position. Before assuming a leadership role at the middle school, Mr. Engelhardt served as a teacher of math, science and business.

The Millwood resident was selected from a pool of 110 applicants. Following his selection, he went through a series of rigorous interviews and during the process demonstrated leadership qualities, as well as strong collaborative skills, said Superintendent Dr. Marc P. Baiocco, who served as the high school's principal for eight years before assuming duties as superintendent.

“We are very excited for the work and the vision that Mr. Engelhardt has for the building,” said Dr. Baiocco during the board meeting.

"This is a beautiful community," said Mr. Engelhardt, reflecting his excitement about taking on the new role and the welcoming nature of the school district and community.

"The students are so respectful. Dr. Baiocco has implemented a culture of respect and rigor in the high school, and a sense of belonging for the kids. I am looking forward to continuing that."

“Mr. Engelhardt is committed to making a seamless transition to AHHS by communicating with each stakeholder group in our District to continue progressing our school toward excellence, added Dr. Baiocco.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who played a role in this process."
