Elmsford Little League donates $100,000 to town to light up ballfield
More games will be played at W Rumbrook field
A big thank you to the Elmsford Little League. At the Greenburgh Town Board meeting on March 12th the Board accepted a donation of $100,000 from the League to help reduce the costs to taxpayers for the purchase and installation of ballfield lights.
The Elmsford Little League is a very popular League with over 700 participants a year. League members come from Edgemont, E Irvington, N Elmsford, Fairview and other hamlets in unincorporated Greenburgh. The lights will allow the Little League to have 4-5 more games per week. The lack of lights hurt the Little League during the spring and fall months when it gets darker earlier. Increased rain events have forced cancellations.
Before the lighting was approved the leadership of the Little League knocked on doors -speaking to residents of Babbitt Court and solicited their support. New technology for lighting of fields is designed to control obstructive lighting. More and more communities are purchasing ball field lighting that supplies the illumination needed for safe play without disturbing nearby residents.

Last year the Town Board appropriated funds in the capital budget of $250,000 for the lights to be installed at West Rumbrook Park off of Sawmill River Road. The lights are expected to be installed in the coming months -hopefully sooner.
