Elmsford Seniors Sign National Letters of Intent

Five athletes sign, with more to come

The largest group in recent history to officially sign National Letters of Intent with several local and regional colleges took place at the Alexander Hamilton Jr./Sr. High School in the Elmsford Union Free School District May 31, much to the delight of coaches, parents and the entire high school community.

The athletes who signed included: Christopher Green, basketball, Utica College; Christian Graham, basketball, Mount St. Vincent College; Christopher Harris, basketball, Utica College; Lowell Pierrette, cross country/track and field, Iona College; and Jada Tom, basketball, Westchester Community College.

“This is not something that is easy to obtain,” said Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Rob Pollok as he introduced the Class of 2018 scholar-athletes.

“This doesn’t happen by accident. A lot of hard work and dedication and a genuine passion for their sport went into this,” he added.

Mr. Pollok added that there may be as many as 10 more student-athletes to sign similar letters of intent once they decide which college to play for in the fall.

He did, however, caution the students seated at a special table set up in the high school auditorium about the caliber of play they will be up against at the college level. He added that he is confident their training at AHHS would stand to them.

“I expect you will rise to the occasion and put your academic priorities first. I am excited to see what the future holds for all of you.”

Superintendent Dr. Marc Baiocco, who was their high school principal when they entered the school, also commended the talented group, recognizing the people who had helped them succeed, including their parents and coaches.

“Continue to take the advice of your coaches, play hard and have fun….and you are all going to be a success,” he told them.

AHHS Principal Joseph Engelhardt also reassured the graduates.

“Keep working hard and don’t forget the advice of the coaches you’ve met along the way,” he said.
