experiences around the nation- snow mounds blocking driveway
It's a national problem. And there aren't easy solutions. Some TV stations from around the US offer tips to residents to minimize problem
The calls and e mails have started. And, I expect my phones to be ringing non stop tomorrow. The road conditions in Greenburgh should be passable tomorrow -- Our highway, DPW & parks department employees have worked real hard trying to clear 140 miles of road of snow with 32 trucks. They worked day and all night long. But - people always get upset when their driveways are blocked with snow.
This is a problem every community experiences. Some news stories from around the country explain. I also am posting some tips that news stations from around the country have given their viewers--what you could do to minimize the problem.
It's very upsetting when residents spend hours clearing their driveways of snow --only to have a plow pile up a mountain of snow next to your driveway --making it impossible to get out and requiring you to get back to work clearing the driveways of snow.
Over the years I have spoken with my colleagues in Westchester and around the state about the problem. No one has a good practical suggestion that could eliminate this problem.

But the truth is, the plows need to push the snow out of the road and that means it has to go somewhere else. Think of it like this: if there are 5 houses on your street and a plow stopped at each one to clear the front of the driveway, it would take a lot longer to clear than if it just pushed the snow aside. Then consider all the roads plows have to get to.
The City says it's just not feasible to make sure driveways aren't blocked.
