Fall Season Starts with a Win

The AYSO fall soccer season started last Saturday with a big opening day win for the Mustangs at Pocantico field.  The Tarrytown under age 11 girls defeated rival Ossining 5-0.  The last time these teams met Tarrytown won 1-0 with a last minute goal.  There was no drama this time as scoring started early in the first quarter, when Maya Weitzen took a shot that bounced off the cross bar. Talia Fante was quick to capitalize on the rebound for the opening score.  Talia went on to score two more goals earning her a hat trick for the day.  Makayla Williams filled in for Emma Clarke and out fought the Ossining keeper by scoring while lying on the ground.  Sophie Sylves-Berry also earned a goal by pressuring Ossining into scoring on themselves.  Samantha Nutig played strong from midfield just missing an outside shot that flew over the cross bar.  Samantha Livingston and Caroline Grimes worked the wings well constantly advancing the ball and setting up the attack.

On defense Maddy Navin and Sadie Swenson had help from Catherine Grimes and gave up few scoring opportunities.  The defenders supported the offense and made sure that the ball was on the Ossining side for most of the game.  Julia Costa and Sophie Sylves-Berry shared time at goalie, both contributing to the shutout.  The Mustangs next play Mt Pleasant at Pocantico on Sept 21.  The last contest between these teams ended in a 2-2 tie in a very physical game.  The girls will also be selling raffle tickets to raise money for their trip to the national games next summer.  The raffle will be held at Doyles in Sleepy Hollow on Sept 28th in the evening.
