On June 15th the Tarrytown Mustangs travelled to Ossining to participate in the Wiz of Oss Tournament. They opened against undefeated Westchester Youth Soccer club team Somers with a 0-0 tie. The Mustangs appeared to be the stronger team but were unable to score in the shortened tournament format. In their next game Tarrytown faced rival Pleasantville. Tarrytown had beaten the Wildcats in 2 out of their last three games but this time the game was played on artificial turf. Pleasantville took advantage of their familiarity with the speedier surface and scored a goal in the third period. Tarrytown had several opportunities, but were unable to score and lost only their second game of the 2012-2013 season.
In the final game of the day the Mustangs took on Croton. In the second quarter Sophie Sylves-Berry took a ball deep to Croton's left corner. There she passed back to trailing Samantha Nutig, who crossed it to Maya Weitzen for the goal. Croton tied the game in the fourth quarter, but with 2 minutes left Julia Costa crossed a ball to Caroline Grimes, who deflected the ball into the net for the winning score. Annie Dinnen, Sadie Swenson, and Maddy Navin played well at defense; while Samantha Livingston, Talia Fante, Emma Clarke, and Catherine Grimes were strong on offense. The girls also participated in a shoot out tournament and came in second place out of 8 teams. The Mustangs finish the 2012-2013 AYSO season tied for first place in Westchester County with Pleasantville. They finished with 15 wins, 2 losses, and 4 ties.
The Mustangs now start their summer practice schedule in anticipation of moving up to the Under age 12 league next fall. Besides improving their skills, they will have to begin fundraising for their trip to the national games in California in the summer of 2014.
