a good reason why sanitation services should not be privatized

In Yorktown garbage collection was disrupted last week

In recent years some residents have suggested that Greenburgh should privatize sanitation services to save money. The Town Board has always rejected that suggestion. Some other communities in Westchester that have privatized sanitation services have run into difficulties ---the most recent being Yorktown. In Yorktown there has been a report of garbage collection disruptions. See the article below:
The Greenburgh Department of Public Works does an outstanding job of collecting garbage. Our DPW employees are among the most popular public servants around --with residents frequently praising our employees for their hard work, responsiveness, friendliness and going out of their way to help residents who are disabled and elderly.
