Grant Helps with Purchase of New Bike Racks in Elmsford Schools

Healthy living also being encouraged among the district's students

A $1,000 grant from Action for Healthy Kids has been instrumental in providing the Elmsford Union Free School District with three new bike racks.

Rob Pollok, the district's Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics, applied for the funds in the spring of 2017, which came from AFHK through CSX, a Florida-based transportation company that provides transportation services and solutions to a variety of industries.

Mr. Pollok believed that bike racks would be particularly useful for Elmsford’s students who engage in after-school activities but don't normally have a way of getting home.

“My intention in seeking the grant was also to encourage students to exercise more, which in turn would lead to a healthier, more active lifestyle for them,” he added.

The racks, which will be placed in designated areas throughout the district, will hold about 20 bikes. Students will need to bring locks to keep their bikes secure during the day, he said.
