Greenburgh Initiates Foreclosure Procedure on 72 Properties
If a judge agrees to the motion, the town will take over ownership of the parcels.

TARRYTOWN, NY - The Town of Greenburgh has filed a motion in state Supreme Court to foreclose on 72 properties.
Supervisor Paul Feiner said the parcels represent approximately $7.1 million in unpaid taxes, including interest and penalties.
Sixteen of the properties are classified as family residences; two of the 16 have been demolished.

Feiner said when the judge signs the motion for judgment of foreclosure the town will own the properties and will then sell or auction off the properties.

This is the first foreclosure procedure the town has undertaken in many years, Feiner said.
“We have decided to do this annually in the future,” he said. “By not waiting, it will be easier for residents to come up with the dollars they owe, work out payment plans and avoid foreclosure.”
All taxpayers who owed money to the town were sent information by which they could apply for assistance in preventing foreclosures and work out payment plans for back taxes.
