Greenburgh, White Plains, Tarrytown Receive Route 119 Grant

The project will result in a design that support high-quality access to the new New York Bridge.

TARRYTOWN, NY — The Town of Greenburgh, the villages of Elmsford and Tarrytown and the City of White Plains have received an inter-municipal grant that will fund a Route 119 Complete Street Design Plan. Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner said the grant is in the amount of $250,000. It is from the state Thruway Authority as part of a Community Benefits Program Agreement associated with the New NY Bridge Project.

The design plan will focus on opportunities to update the Route 119 corridor with pedestrian-cycling-vehicular safety measures.

Together with a consortium of municipal representatives and local residents, the selected consulting team will draw from existing studies and plans, public meetings and technical expertise to pilot and document a practical plan that can be submitted for final engineering before July 2018, Feiner said.

“This project will result in a design that support high-quality access to the new New York Bridge and existing trails crossing Route 119 highways and high volume junctions, as well as adjacent communities while providing continue active transportation connectivity, improved safety and better multi-modal access for local business and residential areas,” he said.
