Healthy Life Series Continues in December at Phelps Hospital
Series offers the community a wide range of programs on health-related subjects as well as numerous health screenings and support groups

All events are free and take place on the Phelps campus, 701 N. Broadway in Sleepy Hollow unless otherwise noted. The Phelps Healthy Life Calendar for December follows:
Wednesday, December 2 – Bereavement Support Group for Parent/Sibling Loss This eight-session support group that began in October concludes its Wednesday evening sessions from 6:30 – 8:00 pm on the campus of Phelps at 755 North Broadway, Suite 225. Wednesday, December 2 - Mind Games is a fun way for seniors to help stimulate their minds and improve cognitive functioning (memory, visual recall, problem solving, focus and speed, and spatial reasoning) by playing group games. Wednesday, December 2 - Sleep Well Support Group Do you or a loved one have a problem sleeping at night? Are you having difficulty with the treatment for your sleep disorder? The Sleep Well Support group provides an opportunity for people with sleep disorders and their family members and friends to come together to share experiences and to learn about sleep disorders and treatment options. Dentist Michael Teitelbaum will discuss oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea. Wednesday, December 2 - Spirituality Workshops A free workshop on spirituality presented by the Reverend Dr. Carole Johannsen, Coordinator of Pastoral Care at Phelps. The programs are from 9:00 -10:30 am in the Auditorium. The topic is “About Prayer: How, What, Where, When and Why - How to pray, especially if you’re not a “praying person.” What should be the content of prayer? Must you be in church or on your knees to pray? Is there a special time for prayer? Is prayer necessary for a relationship with God? Monday, December 7 - Look Good . . . Feel Better® is a free 2-hour workshop that teaches beauty techniques to women undergoing cancer treatment. The program includes a hair consultation with a professional stylist and a makeup consultation with a cosmetologist. Attendees can take home a complimentary wig and a make-up kit donated by cosmetic companies. The program is offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society, The National Cosmetology Association, and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) Foundation. Tuesday, December 8 – Better Breathers Club The Better Breathers Club is an informal interactive support group for people with breathing disorders. Do you experience shortness of breath or have a lung disease? Come learn about what the American Lung Association can do to help. From 12 – 1 pm in the Pulmonary Lab with Serena Arrabito-Joo, Esq., American Lung Association. Call 914-366-3712 to register.

Thursday, December 10 - Osteoporosis Support and Education A free monthly group program for individuals with osteoporosis, providing education on nutrition, exercise (weight-bearing, strengthening and balance) and activities of daily living. Friday, December 11 – Alzheimer’s Support Group Caregiving for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease doesn’t mean you don’t have to go it alone. Join us and receive the emotional, educational and social support needed to successfully care for someone with dementia. On the Phelps campus in the 755 Building, Room 545 from 10:00 – 11:30 am.
