High School's Graduation Rate Reaches New High
Elmsford School District Attributes Success to Efforts of Staff and Students

Elmsford School District Superintendent Dr. Marc Baiocco makes the official pronouncement to the Class of 2018 at the high school commencement ceremonies June 21.
The graduation rate at Alexander Hamilton Jr./Sr. High School in the Elmsford Union Free School District has produced the highest projected on-time graduation rate in many years.
Superintendent Dr. Marc Baiocco made the announcement at a recent sixth-grade moving-up ceremony at the district’s Alice E. Grady School.

“My challenge to you as you enter Hamilton is to do as well or even better than the students who came before you,” said Dr. Baiocco, addressing the sixth-graders who will enter the high school in the fall.
AHHS serves as a junior high and a high school, with students enrolling in the seventh through 12th grades.

The increased graduation rate is due to a number of factors, explained Dr. Baiocco.
It includes the implementation of strategies in the district’s Academic Improvement Plan for the two-year period 2017-2019, which includes early identification of at-risk students and providing research-based interventions for them, such as teacher mentorships to improve their academic standing; as well as new advanced course offerings that will result in a more rigorous outcome for students; and providing a toolbox of strategies to identify and address students’ social and emotional needs, among other strategies.
“The accomplishments of the staff and students are outstanding,” said Dr. Baiocco. “It demonstrates that strategic planning and perseverance result in goal attainment. As our students graduate and leave AHHS, we are confident that they are prepared for the challenges ahead.”
Dr. Baiocco added that a testament to the high school’s graduation rate is the list of colleges the Class of 2018 has been accepted to. They include American University, Cornell University, Drexel University, Fordham University, Iona University, Pace University, Manhattan College, Manhattanville College, Roger Williams University, Rutgers University, the University of Vermont, a number of CUNY and SUNY colleges, and many more.
