Hudson Valley Has 1 Of 'World's 50 Best Restaurants': Report

Only four New York eateries made the list.

POCANTICO HILLS, NY — One of “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants” for 2018 is located right in the Hudson Valley. William Reed Business Media came up with the list that places Blue Hill at Stone Barns at No. 12. Additionally, Chef Dan Barber was voted by his peers of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants as the winner of the Chefs’ Choice Award for 2018.

According to William Reed, Blue Hill at Stone Barn is described as a “rustic farmhouse serving a progressive and sustainably minded tasting menu.” The restaurant seeks out eco-friendly and low-waste practices to enhance his menu. He has a 30-course tasting menu that is centered on produce often pulled from the earth hours before it hits the plate.

The standout dish, according to the voters, was zucchini stem penne.

Blue Hill at Stone Barns first made the 50 best list in 2015. It made its initial entry at No. 49.

The restaurant is located at 630 Bedford Road in Pocantico Hills.

William Reed Business Media, which compiles the list, has restaurant experts made up of more than 1,000 chefs and restaurateurs, food writers and well-traveled gourmets — about a third each — who select 10 restaurants a piece that they have visited at least once in the last 18 months. The voters remain anonymous.

The 10 restaurants are submitted in order of preference. Full voting rules can be found here.
