Last Chance to Register 5th and 6th Graders for July Creative Writing Course at Sarah Lawrence College
A six-session, creative-writing program for fifth and sixth graders will start on July 8, 2014 at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville. The two-hour classes begin at 11 a.m. on July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22 and 24. The registration fee is $300.
The course covers a variety of genres including poetry, fiction, essays, and graphic novels. Visual art and theater exercises are conducted during the program. The use of a variety of prompts, free writes, workshops, and games help to improve the students' writing skills.
Sophia G. Starmack, the instructor, has a BA and an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MA from Bryn Mawr College. She has taught writing and language classes in the United States, France, and Turkey.
Starmack has worked with students from 2 to 62 in community centers, day-care centers, high schools, and colleges, and currently teaches academic writing at Manhattanville College. Her work appears in Best New Poets 2012.
