TARRYTOWN, NY — Since 1967, Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps has provided Emergency Medical Service to the community without using any tax dollars.

According to Alaric Young, chairman of the Board of Directors, “We are an independent, state certified ambulance service managed by local volunteers for over 50 years. Last year, our EMT’s and crews responded to over 1,000 emergency calls and we are on track to exceed that number.”

“It’s a great way to connect with your community,” says Captain Jill Swanson. “We give first aid and community CPR lessons. We cover street fairs, sporting and other events. Everyone has a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that comes with knowing you helped someone in need.”

Young added, “Our main sources of revenue are through generous donations and obtaining revenue recovery funds from insurance companies, where available. By strict budgeting, maintaining our equipment and supplies, we have not had the need to ask the Village of Tarrytown for financial support.”

The Corps is there for you and/or your business — 24/7 — to respond to medical emergencies, whether as a result of an injury, accident, violence, hurricane or other natural disaster. Your 911 call gets relayed by the Tarrytown Police Department whose prompt action enables the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to respond in a timely fashion.

Medical services are given to anyone in need. They have always been on the leading edge of providing the newest lifesaving techniques such as defibrillators, EpiPens and inhalers.

In addition, first aid and CPR classes for the public, groups and businesses are provided on site or at Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps headquarters.

If you have a need for the corps, they are there for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They arrive with a full trained crew and an ambulance with the equipment needed to save lives and stabilize patients on their way to the Emergency Room.

Volunteers are needed and always welcome. For further information, call 914-631-6469 or visit www.tarrytownvac.org or our Facebook page.
