Smaller physical hazards in food are more of a concern such as: screws, glass, pins, bone, rocks, fingernails, band aids and hair (hair being #1).

However, a large piece of hot metal embedded in my cooked rotisserie chicken may make it more difficult to properly cool. Improper cooling causing thermal abuse is one of the leading causes of foodborne illness.

Had the food contact surface of that metal spit holder been compromised, like flaking rust, then that would have been yet another issue.

What is most disconcerting is the thought of how careless the individual was who produced this product and it begs to question if they have any food safety standards. What else did they make? Am I going to find another goodie in my pre-packaged sandwich that does not have a proper ingredient label?

I took the heavy bird back to the store, got my money back and a free chicken.

At least the store did the right thing and I was happy with that.
