New Superintendent Chosen for Pocantico Hills Schools

The district hired from within to fill the position.

A new superintendent of the Pocantico Hills Central School District has been selected.

Board President Emily Segal said Carol Conklin-Spillane was chosen to lead the district.

Conklin-Spillane will be formally appointed at a meeting this month and will begin in the position July 1, 2016

She will be replaces Dr. Marilyn Terranova who has been interim superintendent since January.

Conklin-Spillane has been principal of Sleepy Hollow High School since 1994.

Segal said the board was excited to have Conklin-Spillane become superintendent because she has had a long and positive relationship with the district.

“In Carol, we have a respected, nationally recognized educator who aslo brings demonstrated commitment to our children,” she said. “She is a student-centered teacher and leader who apprieciates the wonderful traditions that make Pocantico such a special place, and also recognizes the need for innovation and rigor in 21st-century academics.”

Last year, Conklin-Spillane was appointed to the governor’s Common Core Task Force and crafted a series of recommendations that have been embraced as a roadmap for improving teaching and learning in the state.

She was seleted as Outstanding Regional Administrator of the year in 2012 by the Empire State Supervisors and Administrators Association.
