New York One of 10 Worst States to Have a Baby, Report Says

New York is one of the worst places in the country to have a baby, according to a new report.

WalletHub ranked all 50 states in its Best and Worst States to Have a Baby survey. The Empire State came in at an overall ranking of No. 45.

While New York received high marks for health care, budget and baby-friendly environment stats pulled the state’s ranking down. New York was ranked No. 46 for budget, No. 48 for baby-friendly environments, and No. 11 for healthcare for new moms and babies.

Having a baby in the United States is an expensive endeavor. The average cost of a delivery is $9,775. In France, that figure is $3,541. In the United Kingdom, it’s $2,641. The U.S. has the most expensive birthing costs in the world, according to WalletHub.
