Plan To Rename Tappan Zee Bridge Receiving Pushback Around Hudson Valley

Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants to have the bridge named after his dad, the former governor.

TARRYTOWN, NY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s plan to rename the new Tappan Zee Bridge after his father Mario Cuomo is receiving pushback around the Hudson Valley. Two politicians at either end of the new span aren’t looking kindly at the proposal.

Ed Day, Rockland County’s executive, feels a politician’s name should not be on the bridge, while Assembly,am Thomas Abinanti, D-Mount Pleasant, said more vetting should go into the process, the Journal News reported.

The bridge’s current name is “The Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge.”
