Queens Man Faces Felony DWI After Police Chase

The pursuit ended when the man crashed into a rock wall, police said.

GREENBURGH, NY — State Police arrested a Queens man after he led them on a short pursuit that began in the Town of Greenburgh. Around 10:58 p.m. March 28, troopers tried to stop the car being driven by Jonathan Bermudez, 31, of Queens. on I-87 in Greenburgh for a vehicle and traffic violation.

The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren, but Bermudez sped off.

After a short pursuit which ended on South Boulevard in the Town of Orangetown, his car crashed into a rock wall.

Bermudez was taken into custody without further incident.

He refused to submit to a breath or blood test to determine whether there were drugs or alcohol in his system, police said, adding that he had a prior conviction for DWI within the last 10 years.

He was taken to the Tarrytown barracks where he was charged with the following:

  • Third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, a misdemeanor
  • Second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor
  • Reckless endangerment of property, a misdemeanor
  • Driving while intoxicated — previous conviction within 10 years, a felony
  • Multiple vehicle and traffic violations

Bermudez was issued appearance tickets and traffic tickets which were made returnable to the Town of Orangetown Court April 25.

Police said no injuries were reported.
