The second week of the fall season is in the books for the Sleepy Hollow Football Club. With 20 teams of boys and girls ranging from ages 8-18, SHFC players travel across the county as well as neighboring counties for competitive play in the Westchester Youth Soccer League.

Here is how our teams did this past weekend.

2010 Boys All Reds travelled to the White Plains White and won with a final score of 3-1. The team, playing in their first season, is coached by Gary Fairley, Oladipo Ashiru and Aaron Lucchetti. The All Reds travel to the Eastchester Eagles on Sunday September 23.

2010 Girls Bandits played a very competitive game against the Chappaqua Blue, losing 2-0. The team continued to improve and played a terrific 2nd half with 6 shots on goals and many more opportunities to score. Collectively, the team is continuing to improve their teamwork, possession and overall abilities. The Bandits looking forward to their September 23rd game against at Rye against the Rye Rush.

2009 Boys United travelled to the Alba Bobcats. The score is not available. United are coached by Gary Fairley, Kurt Pisani and Eric Valenti. Playing in their first season together, they will travel to the John Jay Whites on Sunday September 23.

2009 Boys Red Lions won 4-1 at home against the Rye Raiders. Nuno Andrade coached the team, with assistance from Howard Allen. The Red Lions will host the Munay Maroon at Hackley School field at 3pm on Sunday, September 23.

2009 Girls Red Fury coached by Katie McMahon, John Sutherland and Jim McGovern tied the Wolfgang Lady Wolves this week 1-1 at Pocantico Hills. The Fury played a tough first half with the offense pounding shots on goal by Rachel Richardson, Maeve Yox, Swara Ketkar and Kate Masters. A goal finally slipped through with a great combination effort by Beanne Rodriguez to Meghan McMahon. The Fury were able to keep the Lady Wolves scoreless in the first half by great saves by goalie Grace McGovern and a strong defense by Kate Masters, Sofia Cruz and Charlotte Spiridakis.

Unfortunately, the Lady Wolves were able to sneak a goal by goalie Rose Ritz at the start of the second half but an amazing save by Sofia Cruz kept the Lady Wolves at a tie. Despite pounding the Lady Wolves goalie with shot after shot, the Fury were unable to score again. The Red Fury play the Eastchester Reign next week in Tuckahoe.

2008 Girls Red Comets coached by Sven Armster and Joe Block were defeated 2-0 by the Quickstrike Patriots. They will host the Manhattan Ravens Maroon at Hackley School field at 1:30pm on Sunday, September 23.

2008 Boys Fusion hosted the Pelham Pirates and saw a stalemate for much of the first quarter until Fusion really started to bring offensive pressure. A goal from Kieran Degen was quickly followed by one from Jack Zhunio. Additional attempts from Sean Mackiewicz and Ian Papadopoulos were unable to find their mark but gave the SHFC boys great confidence as they were up 2-0 going into halftime.

Right into the second half, there were shots on goal from Raul Socualaya and Aiden Lee, though Fusion didn’t put up points until Jezrael Panama scored off his defensive takeaway. Pierce Davis had multiple attempts and two goals in rapid succession as Fusion began to outrun their opponent. Edwin Dutan scored the game’s final goal from an assist by Papadopoulos, making it a 6-0 final.

Coaches George Papadopoulos, Ken Mackiewicz and Michael Degen saw their team bring and maintain offensive pressure for much of the game. This was thanks to exceptional hustle from Zhunio, Degen, Mackiewicz, Panama and Jaiden Brito. Seeing both offensive and defensive play was Bruno Flores, who has folded nicely into his new team.

Defense from Fusion’s Justin Paute, Dylan Pasato , Dylan Largo and Lee kept the Pirates away from Fusion’s goal much of the game. Davis and Largo, sharing goalkeeper duties, were able to handle the attempts coming their way to keep it a shutout. With a 2-0 record, Fusion travels to the White Plains Black on Sunday September 23.

2008 Boys River Sharks fell to the Shrub Oak Fusion 4-1 on the road. They are coached by Ed Greenberg, Gerardo Soto and Michael Glynn. The River Sharks will travel to LMFC Gold Knights on Sunday September 23.

2007 Girls Blaze, playing in the U12 Tier-1 WYSL Division, won their second straight game on Sunday afternoon against the Munay Earthquakes from Ossining. On the game's opening play, Gemma Fante and teammate Julissa Segarra had a give and go with Julissa scoring the goal and Gemma gaining the assist to give the Blaze a quick 1 - 0 lead, Goalie Emily Aridas had six nice saves in the first half as the score remained unchanged at the half.

In the second half Julissa Segarra had her second goal of the game, scoring thanks to a nice long assist from mid fielder Penney McVey. Six minutes later Gemma Fante intercepted a goalie kick from the Earthquakes and passed to Ellie Fox who kicked the ball so hard from 20 yards away that even though the Earthquakes goalie leapt to deflect the rocket, the ball still had enough momentum to hit the back of the net, putting the Blaze ahead 3 - 0. After a penalty kick awarded in the goalie's box was converted by the Earthquakes to narrow the score to 3 - 1, Ellie Fox scored her second goal of the game with less than 10 minutes remaining on another pass from Gemma, "The Assist Machine" Fante who earned her third assist of the day playing her front center position.

That would be the last time either side scored despite some brilliant passing by Blaze midfielders Meghan O'Hanlon and Blaze rookie Maggie Yalmokis as the Earthquakes goalie had several diving saves against kicks offered by Blaze forwards Lizzie Molina, Kayla McGuigan, and Zoey Murphy in the second half. Keeping the pressure on the Earthquakes defense was Blaze defender Gabby Disney who on three separate occasions passed the ball 30+ yards downfield over the defenders heads to hit Blaze forwards Julianna and Sammie Marvin in-stride. The team enjoyed victory munchkins after the game as shown here.

Next week, Blaze coaches John Sutherland and Annette O'Hanlon will will need the offense to keep clicking when the Blaze play on the road for the first time this season and face a Castleford Lions team that has allowed only 1 goal in two Division-1 games this season.

2007 Boys Dynamo coached by Alberto Blanco bested the Somers Galaxy 5-0 at home on a hot day with only one substitute player! They host the LMFC Blue Gunners on Sunday September 23 at Hackley School field at 4:30pm.

2007 Boys Dutchmen The Castleford Mercury team from Armonk hosted the Dutchmen, who had a full squad which helped in the heat. Henry intercepted a goal kick and blasted in the first goal. Shortly thereafter Joey fought off defenders and tallied goal #2 on a difficult shot. The final score came on a smart free by Nico who pushed the ball to Alex who slammed one past the surprised opposition.

Castleford was tenacious but solid defense by the Dutchmen fended them off. Sturdy play in goal by Marlon and Henry shut down Castleford.

2006 Girls Storm coached by Kevin Richardson and Tom Andruss fell 1-0 to the Rye Brook Fury. They host the White Plains Black at 2:30pm on Washington Irving Field on Sunday September 23.

2006 Boys Firebolts coached by Ricardo Gonzalez fell 2-0 at home against the JPSC Fire. They host the John Jay Purple at Washington Irving Field at 4:15pm on Sunday, September 23.

2006 Boys Warriors evened their record at 1 - 1 with a win against the Greenburgh United Cobras on Sunday. This was the Warriors first home game on the very spacious Washington Irving turf field. Next up for the Warriors is the always challenging Lansdowne Yonkers Cougars.

2005 Girls Cyclones fell to Mahopac 6-2, but not without a fight! Initially down by one, a pass by Isabella Levine to Caitlyn O’Hanlon who then took the ball from midfield to the endline and made a beautiful cross that Colleen Coffey slammed into the net tied the game. Our second goal was started in our defensive third and passed through- Isabelle Murphy to Caitlyn to Angie Santos giving us a halftime lead. Ywomie Mota lead the defense in controlling our defensive third, continually stopping the Mahopac offense. Unfortunately, Mahopac had beautiful shots that were perfectly marked for the high corners of the goal. The ending score did not show the quality of soccer our girls played. We look forward to playing them again on our turf!

2005 Boys Legends played valiantly in the heat on Sunday at WI and list 1-0 to a well taken goal from Castleford. Lots to work on during the week!

2005 Boys Red Devils won 3-1 against the Harrison Revolution. On Sunday, September 23, they travel to the White Plains Porto Red, who like the Red Devils are 2-0 and currently lead their division. They are coached by Francisco Mendieta, Mark Taylor and Cedric Smith.

2004 Boys Argentina coached by Luis Lewis hosted the Manhattan Rockers, falling 6-0. They travel to the Port Chester Jaguars on Sunday, September 23.

JV Girls Aguias traveled to Randall's Island for an early morning game, 8:30 warm ups. It was already a warm day and the team was ready to go. The Águias (Eagles) dominated the game with the majority of the possession. Defense was strong with the leadership of the goalkeepers, Alicia C-E. in the first half and Maya W. in the second. Muriel O. was crucial in defense back line flanked by Nataly P. and Vanessa S. giving only a few shooting opportunities to their opponents. Sophie S-B was inspirational to start the scoring in the first half, with two very clever goals. The first where she was able to chest the ball into the back of the net. Our mid-field was strong in its ability to string several passes together and quickly move the ball up field. Isabella & Olivia C, Leslie F. playing the flanks helped to spread out the opposing defense creating space for our attackers, Sabrina B. and Honor K, who both got shots on goal forcing the GK to make saves. Melanie U. was our play-maker for the first half, as our attacking midi, having a good amount of the plays going through her. In the second half she really came alive and scored a "hat trick" in less then 15 minutes. The Eagles win 5-0!

We did suffer 2 injuries, Olivia C. bruised hip; Alicia C-E, sprained finger. Spacial thanks the Doctors that attended to their injuries. (Mike Weitzen and Mangala Narasimhan.)

JV Boys Los Gauchos coached by Luis Lewis, Bill Julian and Pepe Monteforte held their season opener against the Don Bosco Hawks Storm, where they fell in a close match with a 3-2 final score. They will travel to the Rye Real Rye on Sunday, September 23.
