Reduced Number of Friday Night Hudson Line Trains During Tappan Zee Girder Placement
For three Friday nights/Saturday mornings - one in October, one in November and one in December - Metro-North will run fewer trains.
Metro-North will reduce the number of evening trains along the Hudson Line for three Friday nights/Saturday mornings this fall as crews move girders in place for the new Tappan Zee Bridge.
Beginning on Oct. 23/24, 700-ton girders will be slid along temporary supports and placed on the pilings above the railroad tracks in Tarrytown. The dates of the other Friday/Saturday combinations have not yet been announced, but will occur in once in November and once in December, according to officials.
Rail service will be reduced between the hours of 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. on those nights/mornings. For safety reasons, construction and state officials do not want trains passing under the work while it is in progress, hence the temporary reduction in the number of trains.
“Metro-North has coordinated with the New NY Bridge team to minimize the impact on Hudson Line train service while work is underway by the contractor,” said Metro-North President Joseph Giulietti in a statement. “This coordination will ensure that no passenger trains are beneath the work site while the girder assemblies are moving overhead. This means fewer trains than normal will operate during three 13-hour construction periods. Metro-North will adjust its schedule slightly on those Friday nights to accommodate this work and will communicate schedule information to our customers. We greatly appreciate that the New NY Bridge team is working with Metro-North and has scheduled their work to minimize service impacts for our customers.”
