Police: Long Island Man Leads Cops From Two States on Chase

A Long Island man led cops from Connecticut and New York on a nearly 20-mile-long chase that ended in his arrest and minor injuries for four officers late Friday afternoon, police said.

Manuel Vidal of Brentwood, NY was reportedly stopped by Connecticut State Police in Darien when the chase ensued around 4 p.m., authorities said.

Officers from Stamford and Greenwich joined state police in attempting to stop Vidal, who headed southbound on I-95. At one point, police attempted to stop Vidal with a spike strip, cops said.

Vidal then hit a Stamford cruiser intentionally, according to the police, before entering Port Chester, where troopers joined the pursuit. The chase continued on I-95 into Harrison with Vidal hitting two New York State trooper vehicles and a second Stamford police vehicle. New York State Police then took Vidal into custody. 

The four injured officers—two from New York, two from Connecticut—suffered minor injuries and were treated at Sound Shore Medical Center, according to police.

Vidal is set to be charged with the following: 

- two felony counts of second-degree assault
- two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief
- one count of second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor

Police said the motive remains under investigation, and it appears drugs and alcohol did not play a role. Noe drugs were found in the car, police said.
