SHFC Games from Oct 28 - Week 7

This weekend, many games across the Westchester Youth Soccer League, in which the Sleepy Hollow Football Club plays, did not happen as planned. Many teams will try to reschedule their games in the final 3 weeks of fall season play. Given the intense and prolonged rain leading into Sunday, many towns, through their field coordinators, decided to close their fields so that muddy play does not ruin them for future use. SHFC teams are hoping for improved field and weather conditions in these final three weeks of the fall season.

Listed by team and player birth year, here are updates on our SHFC teams including highlights from those games which were still held:

2010 Boys All Reds did not play their scheduled game against the White Plains White. Unbeaten this fall in their first season of SHFC eligibility, the All Reds are coached by Gary Fairley, Oladipu Ashiru and Aaron Lucchetti. The All Reds host the Eastchester Eagles at home at Pocantico Hills School on Sunday, November 4 at 11 am.

2009 Boys United did not play their scheduled game against the JPSC Pumas White. They host the Lansdowne Yonkers Fire at 3:45 pm at Pocantico Hills School on November 4.

2009 Boys Red Lions won on the road 5-0 over the Rye Raiders, continuing their winning streak. Coached by Brad Scheller, the Red Lions travel to the Munay Maroon on Sunday, November 4.

2009 Girls Red Fury did not play their scheduled game against the Wolfgang Lady Wolves. Coached by Katie McMahon, John Sutherland and Jim McGovern will host the Eastchester Reign at Pocantico Hills School field on Sunday, November 4 at 12:15 pm.

2008 Girls Red Comets did not play their scheduled game against the Quickstrike Patriots. On November 4, they will travel to the Manhattan Ravens. The Red Comets are coached by Joe Block and Sven Armster.

2008 Boys Fusion travelled to the Harrison Crusaders and from the outset, it was clear that it would be difficult to get one past the Crusaders’ excellent goalie. Multiple attempts each from Pierce Davis, Jezrael Panama, Sean Mackiewicz, Kieran Degen, Ian Papadopoulos, Jack Zhunio, Edwin Dutan and Jaiden Brito simply could not find the back of the net.

Midway through the second half, it seemed Harrison began to get tired, as Fusion finally started converting their attempts into scores. First, Panama scored from a Mackiewicz assist. Minutes later, Raul Socualaya muscled one in, and shortly before game’s end, Mackiewicz scored one of his own with a speedy shot that the goalie just couldn’t reach.

Goalies Justin Paute and Dylan Largo each had some saves, and Fusion’s defense kept the Crusaders’ attempts to a minimum. Aiden Lee and Bruno Flores each did a solid job of clearing the ball and moving it upfield to Fusion’s driving offense. Dylan Pasato, Largo and Paute saw offensive and defensive action, each with shots on goal as well.

While frustrated with their team’s inability to convert, coaches George Papadopoulos, Ken Mackiewicz and Mike Degen were nonetheless pleased with Fusion’s consistent drive and determination to score. Fusion currently lead their division with a record of 7-0, will host the Scarsdale Dortmund at home on Hackley School field at 1:30pm on Sunday, November 4.

2008 Boys River Sharks did not play their scheduled game against the JPSC Red. With a record of 3-2-1, they will host the LMFC Blue Knights at 12 noon at Hackley School field on Sunday, November 4. The River Sharks are coached by Ed Greenberg, Gerardo Soto and Michael Glynn.

2007 Girls Blaze did not play their scheduled game against the Munay Earthquakes. Coached by John Sutherland and Annette O'Hanlon, the Blaze host the Castleford Lions at their home field of Hackley School at 3pm on Sunday, November 4. They are currently undefeated at 6-0, leading their division.

2007 Boys Dynamo did not play their scheduled game against the FC Somers Galaxy. Coached by Alberto Blanco, they travel to the LMFC Blue Gunners on November 4.

2007 Boys Dutchmen did not play their scheduled game against the Castleford Mercury. With a record of 3-2-1, they travel to the division-leading Briarcliff Beasts on November 4.

2006 Girls Storm coached by Kevin Richardson and Tom Andruss hosted the Rye Brook Fury and prevailed 2-0. They travel to the White Plains Black on Sunday, November 4.

2006 Boys Firebolts coached by Ricardo Gonzalez played the Manhattan Whitecaps to a 1-1 tie. Their last game of the season takes place on November 4 at Washington Irving field at 2:30pm against their in-division rivals SHFC’s own Warriors.

2006 Boys Warriors travelled to the Mahopac Fury, winning 4-0 On November 4, they play at Washington Irving field at 2:30pm against their in-division rivals SHFC’s own Firebolts.

2005 Girls Cyclones faced the Mahopac Fierce Eagles at home and it was a close game. The game went scoreless for the entire first half as the Cyclones possessed the ball and played solid defense against the skilled Eagles. The Eagles found the net first 10 minutes into the first half. This motivated the Cyclones to try to tie the game up. The Cyclones opportunity came off a free kick by Ywomie Mota. She sent a brilliant through ball to Thalia Tsilibes, who crossed the ball to Diana Cordero who scored by the far post. The game was tied with 4 minutes left. Unfortunately, the Eagles would go on to score off a corner kick for the game winner. The Cyclones demonstrated improved play as they controlled tempo and did not allow the Eagles to shoot and score more than 2 goals! Go Cyclones!

The Cyclones travel to the FC Somers Night Hawks on November 4.

2005 Boys Legends maintained their first place with a hard earned away draw to Castleford on Sunday. Kieran scored a beautiful goal off a Julien assist with a drive to the near top corner and the whole team defended in numbers after conceding just one. Cooper was outstanding in goal with one kick save imitating De Gea at his best.

The Legends will host the Port Chester Tigers on Sunday November 4 at 11am on the Washington Irving field.

2005 Boys Red Devils had another great game. Dylan Orellana score the first goal for the Devils at the end of the first half. The second half was dominated by the Red Devils, but Harrison's goalie was having a fantastic afternoon, until the Red Devils striker Frank Mendieta score a superb goal for the Devils (celebration shown in photo), with a final score Red Devils 2 Harrison Revolution 0.

On Sunday, November 4, the Red Devils will host the White Plains Porto Red at 12:45 at Washington Irving field. They are coached by Francisco Mendieta, Mark Taylor and Cedric Smith and are 6-0-1 on the season, sitting in first place in their division.

JV Girls Aguias prevailed 2-1 at home against the South Bronx United Shooting Stars. Shown in photos are a goal by Maya W., captain Melanie U. on attack and captain Alicia C.E. in action.

The Aguias are 2-4-1 in Division 1 JV play. They travel to the Harrison Wildcats on Sunday, November 4.

JV Boys Los Gauchos coached by Luis Lewis, Bill Julian and Pepe Monteforte had a pre-scheduled bye this weekend. They are 2-3-1 in Division 1 JV play. Los Gauchos will travel to the Rye Barca on Sunday, November 4.

Varsity Girls Mustangs begin their season this Saturday, November 3 at 3pm against the West Side Red Bulls at Washington Irving field. They will play their 8th year together as a team, making them the longest running team in SHFC/AYSO-EXTRA history, starting and staying together since U9. The Mustangs are comprised of players from four local high school varsity soccer teams, who were born between the years of 2002 and 2004. With their high school soccer seasons now ended, they are are reforming and playing in a WYSL shortened fall mini-season.
