Fusion won their 8th consecutive lossless game in a 3-1 final over New Rochelle Tornadoes, in brisk conditions. Fusion found themselves behind for only the first time this season, when the Tornadoes were able to break past first half goalie Dylan Largo. A few minutes later, Jezrael Panama had a beautiful breakaway and perfectly timed his assist to Pierce Davis, who was well situated for the goal. Shortly thereafter, Kieran Degen scored off of a throw in from Edwin Dutan. Fusion had several first half attempts, but were blocked or sailed wide of the mark. With halftime approaching, a cross from Ian Papadopoulos to Jack Zhunio inside the goal box resulted in the Fusion's third and final goal of the game. Goalie Largo had several blocks while he and the defense helped hold the Tornadoes to one point. The second half saw pressure from Fusion, but despite repeated shots on goal by Raul Socualya, Panama, Dylan Pasato, Justin Paute, Aiden Lee and Dylan Largo, Fusion was unable to convert the attempts into points. Dutan, the second half goalie, saw some action, but the majority of the half's action took place upfield.
It was a very fast paced game on a chilly, but sunny day at Losee Field. The New Rochelle team was much improved from when these two teams played in week 2 of the season, and at the same time Fusion was a little uneven, perhaps due to the cold. Fusion Coach George Papadopoulos had also challenged his team by starting them in positions in which they didn't normally play, but they worked through it. Fusion will close out its fall season on Sunday November 19th at 1:45 against the Edgemont Riders.
2007 Girls Blaze
For the second and final time this Fall season, Blaze met the Castleford Lions. Earlier, it was a narrow 2-1 game and the only loss for the Blaze. On Sunday, both teams brought their A game. Play in the first half was dominated by the Lions as they moved the ball well and made several attempts on goal. Blaze showed great teamwork to keep them at bay and it was 0-0 into the half. Returning to the field, the Blaze played more aggressively in the second half and were able to control the ball more and keep much of the play down field. Unfortunately, it was three quick successive goals by the Lions that tipped the scale. It was a difficult match and the final was 3-0 defeat. It was a great effort by all and the girls fought hard. Blaze, at 5-2-1, looks to finish strong this Sunday with their final opponent, the New Rochelle Wildfires.
2005 Boys Legends
U12 B Legends played two games on the week-end with mirror-image results; on Saturday they won at home 3-0 in the Westchester Cup with a fine performance, on Sunday, after a strong 1st half where they dominated but couldn’t score, the 2nd half performance tailed off and they conceded three. The season finished at home to Castleford on Sunday; the team is expecting a large crowd and are considering charging for admission… more to follow.
2005 Boys Red Devils
The Red Devils had their last game of the season at home playing against the Rye Brook Bulldogs. The Red Devils trailed the Bulldogs 1 - 0 near the end of the first half until Aiden Smith scored and the game went into halftime tied at 1. In the beginning of the second half Frank Mendieta received a fault which called for a free kick and Aiden Smith scored an unstoppable second goal, after that the Bulldogs were trying to score again but unfortunately for them the Red Devils were playing their best game of the season. Justin Robles scored the third goal for the Red Devils, after which head coach Francisco Mendieta move the team to the back to control the game and cover the 3 goals which was working very good for the Red Devils, two minutes before the game ends Frank Mendieta received a very long pass from Marco Contreras and with a softly touch between one defender and the goalie scored the last goal of the game, with the final score of 4-1. The Red Devils finished the Fall Season in first place with a record of 7wins 1tie which gave them 22 points….Congratulations to all the players Cooper Taylor, Juan Rojas, Jack Guzhnay, Christian Morocho, Geancarlo Barzallo, Christhopher Panjon, Marco Contreras, Ludwin Tenezaca, Brandon Mejia, Campbell Greenberg, Aiden Smith, Justin Robles and Frank Mendieta.
2002 Girls Mustangs
Last faced Pelham 5 weeks ago and suffered a 1-2 loss in their worst performance of the season. Since that time the Mustangs have shown significant improvement that was evidenced Sunday by a 6-0 dominating performance. The Mustangs out-hustled, out-skilled, and out-possessed the higher ranked Pelham squad. Britany Alban had an all-star performance with 2 goals and an assist. Maya Weitzen and Talia Fante each scored a goal and had an assist. Abigail Oppenheim and Sophia Khosrowshahi scored one goal each, while Emma Clarke finished with two assist and Juliana Largess had one. There was good scoring balance with three goals coming from the defensive midfield, two from the attacking midfield, and one from the forward position. Defenders Annie Dineen, Sophie Sylves-Berry, Arianna Vizcaino, Emma Clarke, and keepers Julia Costa and Isabella Chambers earned their fourth shutout of the season. Multi-purpose athlete Evelin Chacha provided relief at several positions throughout the game. The Mustangs next travel to Randall’s Island to face the Bronx Shooting Stars with a chance to clinch second place in the top division.
