The second half featured great teamwork and lots of passing and shots on goal by Natalia Hargrave, Marley DeFilippis and Katie Yalmokas and three more successful goals by Mackenzie Linhart, Marianna Patsch, and Sabrina Graham. Melodie Molina spent the second half of the game in goal and made 2 saves to secure a 6-0 shut out.
The Bandits continue to display great teamwork and communication skills. Next weekend there are no games scheduled in observance of Columbus Day. The Bandits will be back on the field on October 14 for a home game against the Larchmont White Lynx at 5:00 pm at the Pocatico Fields.
2009 Boys United hosted the Castleford Rockets. The score is not available. United are coached by Gary Fairley, Kurt Pisani and Eric Valenti. They host the LMFC Orange United at Pocantico School field at 3:45pm on Sunday October 14.
2009 Boys Red Lions hosted the FC Transylvania Barca. The score is not available. Coached by Brad Scheller, the Red Lions will travel to the New Rochelle White Sharks on Sunday, October 14.
2009 Girls Red Fury coached by Katie McMahon, John Sutherland and Jim McGovern remained undefeated (2-0-2), pulling out a 2-2 tie against the undefeated Chappaqua Fire in Pocantico Hills on Sunday. The teams played a scoreless first half; Breanne Rodriguez and Meghan McMahon recorded shots on goal for the Fury. Goalie Mayiumi Marcus Kanesaka made several key saves, supported by the strong defense from Kate Masters and Sofia Cruz.
The Chappaqua Fire started the second half strong, scoring two unanswered goals in the first ten minutes. The Fury showed great determination, with Maeve Yox translating on a great pass from Swara Ketkar to bring the Fury within a goal. The Fury applied continued offensive pressure from the offense including, Rachel Richardson, Erin Arnegger, Maeve Yox, Charlotte Spiridakis, Dianelly Tovar, and Meghan McMahon. Miss McMahon tied it up, converting on a pass from Miss Rodriguez with less than two minutes to go in the game. Goalie Grace McGovern’s aggressive play was critical. The Red Fury’s next game is against the Quickstrike Patriots on October 14 in Yonkers.
2008 Girls Red Comets fell to the Chappaqua Cyclones 3-1 on the road. On October 14, they will host the Edgemont Fireballs at Hackley Field at 12:30pm.
2008 Boys Fusion hosted the Greenburgh United Broncos and found themselves down 1-0 in the game’s third minute. Fusion tried to regroup, and spent the next ten minutes relentlessly making attempts on goal, yet none finding their mark. Finally, Jezrael Panama scored off a beautiful cross from Sean Mackiewicz in the corner. Minutes later the two would connect again in the same way, to put Fusion up 2-1 at halftime.
Consistent pressure from Pierce Davis, Edwin Dutan, Kieran Degen, Jack Zhunio, Bruno Flores, Ian Papadopoulos and Panama on offense kept possession in Fusion’s favor despite the team’s inability to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities. Goalies Dylan Largo and Davis each foiled attempts by the Broncos to score.
At the start of the second half, the Broncos made a series of surges but couldn’t connect. Defense from Aiden Lee, Justin Paute, Raul Socualaya, Dylan Pasato, Largo and Dutan was solid. Again, Fusion brought forth a bevy of unsuccessful attempts from Socualaya, Mackiewicz and Zhunio that would go just wide or into the keeper’s hands. One shot by Panama hit the crossbar, preventing his own hat trick, but the follow up from Degen found its mark.
Bringing consistent pressure on the Broncos’ defense, Zhunio found Papadopoulos in the goal mouth for the fourth score. Just before the game’s end, after so many attempts, Zhunio netted his goal off a defensive takeaway of the goalie.
Coaches George Papadopoulos, Ken Mackiewicz and Mike Degen saw their team fight back successfully from a deficit and were pleased with the pressure and tempo of their team’s play. After the Columbus Day break, Fusion travel to the Mount Pleasant Wildcats – a team with whom they tied last spring.
2008 Boys River Sharks hosted the Deportivo Yonkers PSG, playing to a 1-1 tie. They are coached by Ed Greenberg, Gerardo Soto and Michael Glynn. The River Sharks will host the Pelham Strikers at Hackley School field at 2pm on Sunday, October 14.
2007 Girls Blaze Parents of the Sleepy Hollow Blaze brought their U-12 daughters to Hackley this past Sunday morning for a game against the Rye Running Rock Stars Club. The parents saw a scoreless first half as Blaze defenders Zoey Murphy, Meghan O'Hanlon, and Gabby Disney had eleven successful challenges between them of Rye strikers, while on the offensive end, despite sharp passing by midfielders Ellie Fox and Juliana Marvin to Blaze forwards Julissa Casiano and Lizzie Molina, all Blaze attacks were thwarted.
Blaze Coach John Sutherland and Team Manager Annette O'Hanlon were joined by their new Assistant Coach Fabian Segarra this game. The three coaches must have motivated the girls at halftime, as in the second half, Blaze defenseman Maggie Yalmokis challenged an opposing player, stole the ball and then passed to striker Julissa Casiano in the front court. Julissa passed to center Gemma Fante in stride, who put the Blaze on the board with a beautiful kick to the corner of the Rye net passed the diving Rye goalie. Later in the second half, Kayla McGuigan playing defense, intercepted a pass from a Rye attacker and passed to the first of the Blaze's Dynamic Duo, Julissa Casiano who once again passed to center Gemma Fante who scored her second goal of the game for the Blaze. Strong aggressive midfield play by Sammie Marvin, coupled with ball hawking play by defenseman Penny McVey and strong goalie work by Emily Aridas, who had 11 total saves including 6 in the second half, led to the Blaze team's first shutout of the season.
Parents of the Blaze will be traveling to Randalls Island with their daughters in two weeks, when the WYSL season resumes, to take on the West Side Red Bulls.
