SHHS Students' Work on Display at KMA Art Show

Tarrytown Union Free School District

Seven seniors from Sleepy Hollow High School are taking part in the Young Artists 2024 program and exhibition at Katonah Museum of Art. The exhibition, now in its 41st year, is on display through March 3, 2024.

Young Artists 2024 reflects the depth and diversity of expression among emerging artists. Raquel Almendarez, Nina Lyppens, Sumi Marigolis, Gerald Ray Navarro, Samantha Poy, Sarah Russell, and Nola Versaci are among approximately 400 high school seniors from forty-three schools across Fairfield, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties whose artwork is on display. The exhibition features 365 pieces and is a tribute to the talents of the young artists, the dedication of their teachers, and the support of their families.

“These young artists are thrilled to see their work on display in a professional gallery,” said Kristen Dreyer, Visual Arts Teacher at Sleepy Hollow High School. “The whole event is very exciting.”

Young Artists illustrates the KMA’s steadfast commitment to providing dynamic museum education opportunities to our communities and fostering the next generation of creative thinkers and artists and provides a hands-on, learning experience to aspiring artists.

This unique initiative offers meaningful student participation in the exhibition planning process from beginning to end. Under the guidance of museum professionals, students take on the roles of artist, graphic designer, curator, exhibition designer, and installer as they work collaboratively with the KMA’s staff to mount this impressive exhibition. Senior Gerald Navarro, and Juniors Jazdia Matthews and Rosyln Rubin participated in a hands-on curatorial installation.
