Simon & Schuster's Peter Borland and Penguin Random House's Anne Groell to Speak at SLC Conference
The first annual Publish and Promote Your Book Conference will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Sarah Lawrence College's Heimbold Visual Arts Center located at 915 Kimball Avenue in Bronxville, NY. The conference will be conducted by The Writing Institute of Sarah Lawrence College.
Attendees who are ready to publish their books will be offered advice and opportunities to meet directly with publishing-industry professionals.
Sessions are included on how to pitch to literary agents and major publishing-house editors and how to promote a book through use of social media. A panel discussion about self-publishing is also scheduled.
David Donnelly, Director of SLC's Center for Continuing Education and The Writing Institute, announced that the bevy of conference speakers will include:
- Marly Rusoff, Founder of the Marly Rusoff Literary Agency. She held Vice Presidential positions at Houghton Mifflin, Doubleday and William Morrow before opening her agency in Bronxville and was also an affiliate agent at Carlisle & Company.
- Peter K. Borland, Editorial Director and Vice President, Atria, Simon & Schuster. His areas of interest and responsibility include commercial fiction, narrative nonfiction, memoir, biography, and popular culture.
- Anne Lesley Groell, Executive Editor, Penguin Random House. Authors she has edited include George R. R. Martin, Robin Hobb, Connie Willis, Lynn Flewelling, Mark Anthony, Catherine Asaro, Kay Kenyon and John Marco. She is also an author and her work includes the novel "Anvil of the Sun."
- Julie Svhoerke, Founder, JKS Communications (a literary publicity agency). Her firm’s clients include authors with Harper Collins, Random House and its subsidiaries, Beacon Press, Wiley & Sons, Sourcebooks, Boyds Mills, B & H, Westside, Greenleaf Book Group and Thomas Nelson.

Registration
The admission fee is $275 per person. An additional fee of $125 per person applies for participating in three one-on-one pitch meetings with agents. Seating availability is limited.
