The Tarrytown - Sleepy Hollow Club Soccer Teams had a busy weekend May 6-7.
May 6-7 was a busy weekend for the Sleepy Hollow Football Club. Players, coaches and parents worked around the weather to have a successful weekend of practices, games and tryouts for next season.
2007 Girls – Blaze
It was a productive week for the Blaze as they defeated Manhattan Lyon on a rainy Sunday. Coached by John Sutherland and Chris Junge, the Blaze have worked hard to hone their passing game and this week they showed great improvement. Manhattan Lyon maintained the pressure and it was a fast-paced first half. Ellie Fox and Juliana Marvin worked hard to control the ball and take shots on goal, and succeeded as Juliana Marvin scored. Kayla McGuigan and Emily Aridas in goal provided outstanding defense. It was 1-0 at the half.

On Sunday, the U11 Boys Firebolts won 5-4 in a very entertaining game against the Scarsdale Athletico.
Scarsdale opened the scoring off of an awesome corner kick. Afterwards, the teams went back and forth scoring goals, with the Firebolts scoring 3 goals in the second half.
The Firebolts passed the ball terrifically, and played great defense against a strong offensive team.
The Firebols next play on Sunday at Mamaroneck against the Mamaroneck Blue Panthers.
2006 Boys – Warriors
The Warriors earned their second victory of the season with a 6-4 win over the Rivertowns United Green Bulldogs. The Warriors started the game strong, opening up a 3-0 lead by the end of the first half. In the second half, the Warriors scored twice more to take a 5-0 lead, but the Bulldogs found their footing and finally broke through with their first goal. The Warriors quickly responded by scoring a sixth goal, but the Bulldogs continued to fight and made things exciting by scoring 3 more goals before time ran out.
2005 Girls – Cyclones
On Sunday, the U12 Cyclones Girls coached by Mike Levine, Nick Tsilibes and Tracey Koch tied the Pleasantville Warriors 3-3 in another competitive game.
Pleasantville took the lead 2-0 early in the first half, with Diana Cordero scoring a goal for the Cyclones before the end of the half.
In the second half, the Cyclones tied the game on an own goal off a corner kick, but the Warriors again took the lead 3-2. With less than two minutes left, Diana Cordero scored again to tie the game.
The Cyclones continue to be very competitive in the 12-2 division and next play on Sunday at Randalls Island against the Manhattan Breakers.
2005 Boys – Legends
U12B Legends played 2 games on the week-end and are now officially adjusted to their new division. On Saturday they drew 1-1 away to FC Transylvania, who played hard but fair. Based on the “Goalazzo” index though, the Legends prevailed with a belter from outside the box going in off the post stacking up nicely against a conceded goalmouth scramble. On Sunday, against Castleford, all the work at practice came together with a wonderful team effort; stout, focused defending and keeping, width and depth on attack, hard work, and clinical finishing, delivered a 6-1 victory on the day. Special congrats to Julien who opened his Legends goal scoring account with 2 clinical finishes.
2004 Boys – Titans
The Titans U-13B played away against Harrison Sunday. The Titans were tied for first place with Harrison going into Sundays game, recognizing that Harrison hadn't lost a game in more than a season- The Titans needed to dig deep and play their best. The Titans won 2-0. There were many great moments throughout the game, the Titans controlling momentum and possession. Harrison found the Titan defense virtually impenetrable, yet they did manage to get a few shots off- that our goalies rejected with great skill! The Titans all played well Sunday and are aware that hard work and commitment = success! The Titans are now #1 in their division- and #1 with sportsmanship! The Titans are coached by Scott Burnett and Jose Monteforte.
2004 Boys - Argentina
Won comfortably 7-3 vs Larchmont White Sharks. Completed 300 passes and had multiple scoring opportunities.
Goals by Alex G (2), Sebastian, Danny D (3) , Daniel T.
Gabriel had a hand in 4 of the goals.
Face a tough 3rd-place Chappaqua squad next weekend at Home. Argentina are 4-0 this Season.
2003 Girls – Strikers
The Strikers coached by Matt, Arjen and Matt had good game on Sunday. No Referee showed up so Coach Matt E was already in referee uniform and ready to cover the game. The Strikers came out attacking and had much better possession. The had a few good scoring opportunities that didn't lead to a goal. The visitors from the Bronx had a few counter attack opportunities that got shut down by Grace, Muriel and the Goalkeeper Joana. Finally, in the 26th minute the Strikers were able to find the back of the net with a great cross by Melanie supplying Jackie with a well-placed shot out of the reach of their goalkeeper. The first half ended 1-0 for the Strikers.
The second half we had a change of referees where another volunteer offered to help. Early in the second half the visitors were pressing hard to find an equalizing goal. This came when the referee called a penalty against the Strikers for a deflection from a miss kick that came up and hit the defender's hand. This happened on top of the penalty area but the referee deemed this to be a penalty, much to the disapproval by the coaching staff. The penalty got converted with a well-placed shot out of the reach of Joana. The Strikers determined to regain the lead, picked up the intensity. Possessing the ball and putting together some well-placed passes. Creating some scoring opportunities, with finally scoring the go ahead goal with a well-organized attack starting at midfield by Caroline opening up the field with a well-placed pass to Annalieka who found Melanie on the far post with a great cross which Melanie buried with a hard shot that left their GK with no chance.
The Strikers defense did well to keep the defensive line up high for the offside trap. On many occasions the visitors were in offside positions and this took away their ability to counter attack. However, the volunteer referee didn't notice the offside position of the attacking visitor when the ball was played by their teammate that took a deflection off of one the Strikers right on to the run of said attacker. She placed a lobbing ball over the head of the out coming goalkeeper and into the back of the net equalizing the score once again with less than 3 minutes to play. Final score was 2-2!
Next Sunday the Strikers travel to Bedford Hills Park Sammarco to take on Castleford Hawks at 11:00.
2002 Girls Mustangs
Coach John Sutherland's Mustangs traveled north and earned their 4th tie in four games against the John Jay Sonic. The highlight of the game came off a beautiful cross by Britany Alban in the air from right to left… that Talia Fante volleyed back left to right to Abigail.... who then volleyed the ball low and inside the left post. Sophia Khosrowshai and Talia Fante both had near misses on breakaway attempts that almost sealed away the game. Carolina Lopez took control at keeper with great saves and aggressive play roughing up the Sonic forwards. Unfortunately, John Jay tied the game 1-1 in the second half when the Mustang defense was caught out of position allowing a breakaway goal through the heart of the defense. Overall a strong performance in the top division by the Mustangs. They next face rival Briarcliff in a rematch with a chance to climb into the top half of the standings.
2002 Boys – Los Gauchos
Lost a tough home match after leading 2-0 to RUFC Utd B02.
Look to regroup against a very strong Somers JV squad away next Sunday. Los Gauchos are 4-1 this Season.
