Sleepy Hollow Football Club Challenged by Weather and Week 8 Competition
The Under age 13 Tornadoes (Red) Ruin the West Side Red Bulls Perfect Season at Riverdale Country School, Bronx with a 3-3 Tie

Wins were hard to come by in week 8 on a cold windy Sunday, November 2. The Sleepy Hollow Football Club won 3 games, lost 4 and tied 3 to bring their season totals to 49 wins, 23 losses, and 15 ties. This Sunday will be last fall game for most teams and several are poised to finish strong. Below are the game summaries provided by the all-volunteer coaches.
On Sunday, the under age 9 girls Magic fell to a strong Greenburgh United Storm team by the score of 3-2. The Storm got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the first half and added a 3rd early in the second half. The Magic battled back with scores by Shea Bertolacci and Caitlyn O’Hanlon midway through the second period and were pressing for the equalizer as time wound down. Christine Kern and Sophia McLaurin also turned in exciting efforts for the Magic with Kern making a dazzling one-on-one save in goal on a breakaway by the Storm. Next Sunday the Magic take on the Scarsdale Blue Santos at Washington Irving Field at 12:00pm. This report provided by Magic coach Tom Andruss.
The under age 9 boys Sentinels fought hard against the Somers Tuskers playing most of the second half against the opposing goal, but were ultimately unable to get past the keeper. The final score was a nail-biting 3-2 loss.

The under age 9 boys Warriors had a hugely exciting game when they played away at Macy park to face the Greenburgh United Gunners. The Warriors went down a goal after 8mins but rallied back when Declan McCarthy leveled the score. Eli Krajovan made a great save in the first half and did some great defense in the second. Tucker Junge sent the ball into the back of the net putting the warriors ahead again. Unfortunately a rocket shot from the gunners just before half time made it 2-2. The warriors would have gone 3 goals down had it not been for Kallen Fairley who cleared the ball off the line. The second half saw an arching shot from Callum Gallagher sail into the net putting the warriors ahead. They didn’t look back with Tucker Junge making his second goal of the day. Hugo Jercinovic made some great saves in the last quarter with Roberto Molina coordinating defense. The warriors finished the game with a 5-2 win as Callum Gallagher sent an aerial shot into the 5 yard box which Will Dorman made an amazing volley from to seal the victory. The Warriors have their final challenge next week playing their intra club rival the Rivertowns United Rangers. This report provided by coach Colin Gallagher.
The under age 10 girls Red Angels captained this week by Emma Behrens played a great game, coming back from 0-2, to tie the Harrison Galaxy 2-2. The Red Angels had many scoring opportunities, applying a lot of pressure to the Galaxy, a top team in the division. The Red Angel’s had one goal from Samuella Schroeder and another by Isabella Levine, which was delivered by Emma Behrens. The team again played awesome defense, with great contributions from Ava Iannarelli, Kaitlyn Rubertone and Ywomie Mota. This report provided by coach Mike Levine.

The under age 10 boys Legends braved high and cold wins to pass their way around and through Rye Brook at Washington Irving on Sunday. With the wind advantage in the 1st they scored 4 (Adrian Rodriguez 2, Maximos Matailo and Brandon Morocho) with the Legends defense of Massimo Soto, Kieran O’Sullivan and Kenneth Suqui continually winning the ball and recycling possession. Jai Weitzen added one in the 2nd half to close out a fine performance. The Legends next play the Chappaqua Lions on the road for their final fall game. This report contributed by coach Fergus O’Sullivan.
The under age 11 girls Strikers continued their undefeated run with a exciting 2-2 draw against the Munay Ossining Fire. Heavy wind factored in this game with all scores occurring with the wind assisting. The Strikers gave up two breakaway goals in the fist half by a very fast player. The Strikers came back in the second half with the wind in their favor as Sabrina Conrad scored. The girls continued to press on attack setting up Juliana Largess to score on a ball that Ossining failed to clear properly. The Strikers have their last two games next weekend, Saturday at 1:00 PM at Losee park against the Mt. Pleasant Red Hot Chili Peppers and Sunday at Washington Irving upper field at 2:45 against the Larchmont Blue Eagles. The Strikers will be finishing their fall season with a Tournament at Somers on November 22nd.
The under age 11 boys Tornadoes lost 2-3 to their intra club rival the Rivertowns United Jaguars at windswept Losee Park on Sunday. The Tornadoes’ first goal was assisted by J. Taylor and scored by D. Dorman, while the second was an own-goal after an artful step over chance created by C. Ricchiuti. Keeper T. Smith made a heroic save late in the third quarter off a high long shot, but the Jaguars were able to prevail in the final seconds. Both teams were grateful to veteran ref Matt Evans for stepping in to call the game, as the appointed referee did not show. The Tornadoes return to Losee on Sunday to face the Riverdale Falcons at 3:00. This report contributed by coach Todd Dorman.
The under age 12 girls Mustangs division 3 de facto championship game against also undefeated untied North Salem Sparks was rescheduled to Saturday November 8th due to high winds and downed trees and power lines in North Salem. The Mustangs will also play Sunday November 9th at Washington Irving against rival Mt Pleasant at noon.
The under age 13 girls Horsemen had their three-game winning streak snapped by the Rye Rattlers yesterday at a very windy Washington Irving Lower field. They fell behind early in the first half and weren’t able to recover from the slow start. The Horsemen will take on Division-leading Yonkers at home this coming Sunday. Kickoff is at 1:30pm. This report contributed by coach Tom Schumacher.
The under age 13 Boys went into the Bronx today to play the 7 and 0 West Side Red Bulls. The West side Red Bulls had 35 goals for and 12 goals against going into this game, so the Tornadoes knew they were in for a big challenge. The Red Bulls pressed hard in the first half with the wind at their back, and went up 2-0. They could have netted a couple of more goals if it was not for some tough defending by Joe Cioffi, Mayren De Oliveira, Sebastian Campuzano and Aaron Andrade and some key stops by Nolan Fairley. The Tornadoes came out flying in the second half pressing the Red bulls in their half. A penalty kick was called early in the half after Jonathan Orellano’s hard shot in the box was whistled for a handball. Michael Richards calmly stepped up and fired a rocket into the bottom right corner beyond the outstretched hands of the Red Bulls keeper. With the wind at his back, Jonathan Orellano fired a floater over the head of the Red Bulls keeper from five yards beyond the 18-yard line to notch the score at 2-2. The talented Red Bulls did not lie down and they scored their third after some nifty passing through the midfield, a nice through ball and a well placed breakaway shot. As they have done all season, the Tornadoes did not give up and they pressed hard late in the second half, forcing the Red Bulls deep into their zone. Ahbi Weltig pressed the Red Bulls keeper after a back pass from the full back and was able to get in the way of a clearing attempt to notch the Tornadoes tying goal with 4 minutes to play. This was Ahbi’s 5th goal of the season. It was a great team effort against a very good opponent. The Tornadoes last game of the season is Saturday November 9th in Scarsdale against the Scarsdale Madrid.
The under age 14 girls Eagles regained first place in Division 2 by beating the overly aggressive Port Chester Persian Cats 3-1. The Cat attack started early as did the referee’s warnings, but the Cat’s claws couldn’t slow down Taylor Burnett who scored early in the first half on a breakaway. The second half started with a quick goal by the Persians on a cross that the Eagles defense watched pass through the 6-yard box to a waiting striker. This evened the score and ratcheted up the cheering spectators and the brazen fouling of the Cats. The Eagles soon tallied another score on a corner kick by Burnett that was kept in front of the goal by Zarina Nabi, then played by Colleen Rode to Julia Friedman who buried a shot in the back of the net. After compiling several warnings and two yellow cards, the Cats allowed another goal by the agile Burnett who took advantage of a rebound off the keeper’s hands. Although Port Chester controlled the ball for much of the second half, they became obviously frustrated by the brilliant play of Emily Jeris, the Eagles’ keeper, as she made several outstanding saves. The Eagles travel to Fleming Field next Sunday to face the Yonkers Rush. This report provided by coach Paul Jeris.
