The under age 10 boys Legends had most of the chances and better build up play, but Rye Barcelona Bulls gave a lesson in fast break finishing as the Legends went down to a 3-1 defeat. Adrian Rodriguez, Brandon Morocho and Massimo Soto played sound defense. Kyan Aguilera played a strong 2nd half as sweeper - the last goal being scored when the coach threw caution to the wind and moved Kyan up as 2nd striker looking to find an equalizer. Kieran O’Sullivan scored the Legends goal, beating 2 players down the left hand side before finishing low to the near post from a tight angle. Lots of coaching opportunities this week on finishing and how to beat a “park the bus” defense! This report provided by coach Fergus O’Sullivan.
The under age 11 girls Strikers traveled to play against their rival the Mt Pleasant Red Hot Chili Peppers. The girls started strong with spot on passing which led to three different scoring opportunities in the first few minutes of the game. The third attempt found Abby Oppenheim scoring her second consecutive goal in as many games. This goal came from a half volley shot that dipped under the cross bar and made it impossible for the Chili Pepper keeper to get a hand on the ball. Sabrina Conrad got the assist with Melanie Urgiles getting the second assist. Mt Pleasant then stepped up their game and created almost 20 shots. The Striker defense held strong and Goalkeepers Olivia Hillie and Dylan Zednik we’re up to the challenge and maintained the all important clean sheet. The Strikers offense had several attacking chances as well but was unable to find the back of the net again. The coaching staff waited for the final whistle pleased with the win. The Strikers are now in first place in the forth division. Next week they play the second place Munay Ossining Fire at Losee Park at 1:30. This report provided by coach Matt Evans.
The under age 11 boys Tornadoes, coached by Dorman, Burnett, & Gallagher, with Taylor as team manager, traveled to Mamaroneck to face the Cyclones on Sunday. Keeper Todd Smith drew cheers by pushing a cannon long shot over the crossbar to keep the score sheet clean. Tornadoes goals were scored by Cristian Saquipay and Zachary Burnett, the second goal with Saquipay assisting. The under age 13 girls Horsemen made it three wins in a row Sunday at Washington Irving field. Their complete team effort from whistle to whistle avenged an early season 1-0 loss to the Larchmont Lightning. The under age 14 girls Eagles righted the ship this week with a convincing 3-0 victory over the 2nd place Castleford Gold at Byram Hills HS to retake the position. The Eagles, reinvigorated by the return of defender Grace Hille, started early with an 8 minute goal by Samantha Allen. Castleford had only a few opportunities against keeper Emily Jeris, who made the play of the day coming out of the goal to thwart a breakaway chance by the Gold. The solid defense gave defender Zarina Nabi the opportunity to play midfield, where she made the most of it by scoring in the first half. The final goal by Taylor Burnett came late in the second half after dribbling through three defenders to take a point blank shot on goal. Next Sunday the Eagles look to defend their Division 2, second place position at home against the third place Port Chester Persian Cats. This report provided by coach Paul Jeris.
