Sleepy Hollow Football Club Excels in Week 2
The under age 10 Legends pose at Washington Irving before taking on Mamoronek

It was a beautiful day Sunday September 14 as Sleepy Hollow Football Club, part of AYSO Tarrytown and partners with Rivertowns United, took to the pitch for its second week of action. After two weeks of play our young local players find themselves quite competitive in the Westchester Youth Soccer League with 13 wins, 4 losses and 4 draws. As an added first time honor, AYSO Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow Football Club have been invited to march during half time of the Sleepy Hollow High School football game September 20th against Rye at 1:30 PM.
Here is a synopsis of Sunday’s games:
The under age 9 girls Magic coached by Mac McLaurin edged past Scarsdale Blue Santos 4-3 Sunday afternoon. Scarsdale opened the scoring with an early goal, but the Magic evened it up 1-1 before halftime. The second half was exciting and evenly matched with the two sides trading excellent scoring shots. The Magic saw scoring by three different players. Up next for the Magic is a home match against the Rye Strikers.

The under age 9 boys Warriors, led by coaches Colin Gallagher, Chris Junge and Todd Dorman, defeated the Edgemont Dingoes today in a hard fought 2-1 battle with a deciding penalty kick in the second half. W. Dorman scored both of the Warrior’s goals. Next week the Warriors face the New Rochelle Cobras in what will surely prove to be another exciting home game.
The under age 9 boys Sentinels opened their season with a hard fought 1-1 tie against the Pelham Nifty Lions. The Sentinels jumped out to an early lead and played strong team defense to keep the Nifty Lions off the board in the first half. However, Pelham turned up the pressure after the break and scored the equalizer mid way through the second half. Next week the Sentinels cross the river for an away game against the Rockland Raptors.

On Sunday 9/14 the under age 10 girls Red Angels captained this week by Kaitlyn Rubertone and led by coach Mike Levine and Nick Tsilibes had a terrific comeback 3-2 victory against the Briarcliff Blaze. Thalia Tsilibes scored the three goals for the Red Angels and Julia Schroeder anchored a strong defense with Zoe Kuhn and AJ Orban. The Red Angels will play in Larchmont next Sunday at 1:15 to take on the Larchmont Blue Phoenix.
The under age 10 boys Legends led by Captain Max Matailo, with some outstanding defensive performances by Massimo Soto and Brandon Morocho, scored 2 beautiful goals in a 2-2 draw with Mamaroneck. For the first, Kenneth Suqui attracted both defenders before slipping in a through ball, which the captain finished with authority. For the second, right defender Justin Cruz set Kyan Aguilera scampering up the right touchline. Kyan did a Cruyff turn at the edge of the area and crossed to Nikhil Weltig who rifled in a low drive from the left of the penalty area to the near corner. Next up is a trip to NYC.
The under age 11 girls Strikers traveled to Somers and played a very competitive game. The Strikers are lead by head coach Matt Evans and assisted by Arjen Mets and Ralph Zednik. The team started off strong by scoring two goals within 15 minutes and continued to control a better part of the first half. In the second half Somers had the upper hand and played aggressive. Alicia Carvalho-Evans played a hard game as goalkeeper. The end score was a 2-2 draw, with goals scored by Sabrina Conrad and Melanie Urgiles. Next week the Strikers travel to the upper east side of Manhattan to take on the Asphalt Green Club……… Correction from last week! Shennah Preble scored both goals for the Strikers. Well done!
The under age 11 boys Tornadoes, led by coaches Todd Dorman, Scott Burnett, Colin Gallagher, Todd Smith, and manager Glen Taylor, came back from 1-0 to beat out the previously undefeated Harrison Eagles 3-2 in a dramatic home game at Losee Park. Goals were scored by Christian Saquipay (1), and Zachary Burnett(2). Next week the Tornadoes travel to Randall’s Island Park where they will face the Manhattan Rockers.
The under age 12 girls Mustangs led by coach John Sutherland defeated the Rye Freedoms at Washington Irving 4-0 on Sunday. Julia Costa, Talia Fante, Maya Weitzen, and Sophie Sylves-Berry each scored goals. Carolina Lopez treated spectators to a thrilling save of a penalty kick to preserve the shutout. The Mustangs next face undefeated Edgemont at 2:45pm Sunday 9/21 at Washington Irving.
The under age 13 girls Horsemen led by coach Tom Schumacher lost 0-1 to the Larchmont Lightning as they continue their inaugural season in the WYSL. The Horsemen enjoyed the majority of possession throughout the game but were unable to beat the Lightning defense despite constant pressure throughout the second half. The lone goal was scored against the run of play late in the first half on a Larchmont breakaway. The Horsemen travel next to Rye to face the Rattlers next Sunday at 12:45pm.
The under age 13 Boys Torandoes battled with the Rye Tornadoes to a 2-2 tie off of goals by Jonatha Orellano and Abhijay Weltig. Nolan Fairley made several key saves to keep Tarrytown in the game during the final minutes. The Tornadoes next game is Saturday Sept 21 versus Scarsdale Madird.
After falling behind early to the Yonkers Rush Ravens, 1-0, the Girls U14 Eagles kept it interesting when Julia Friedman scored late in the first half off an assist from Samantha Allen. The Eagles pulled it together across all lines in the second half. The midfielders and defenders, led by Natalie Smith, Colleen Rode and Fiona Wozniak, were able to fend off a very talented attack, while their goalkeeper, Emily Jeris, made some brilliant diving and point blank saves. The Eagles teamwork proved too much for the Ravens as Sam Allen added two goals, Friedman scored another, and Taylor Burnett earned two assists to bring the Eagles their second win 4-1. The Eagles travel to Riverdale next Sunday to face the second place West Side Red Bulls.
